The National Association of Women and the Law is excited to announce the publication of the 2024 edition of “A Woman’s Guide to Money, Relationships, and the Law in Ontario”.

This comprehensive guide is designed to empower women in Ontario with the knowledge of their financial rights and responsibilities within relationships. Whether you are married or in an unmarried (or common-law) relationship, understanding the legal landscape is crucial.

In Ontario, laws governing financial matters within relationships can vary depending on marital status. This guide sheds light on these differences, providing clarity on federal and provincial laws that affect individuals across the province.

The guide also addresses economic abuse, commonly observed within intimate relationships. Economic or financial abuse occurs when one individual seeks to manipulate or dominate their partner through financial means. This type of abuse can manifest in various forms and may occur independently or as part of a broader pattern of coercive behavior.

From the moment you enter a relationship, being informed is key. Even in the happiest of times, it is essential to plan ahead and understand your entitlements and obligations under the law.

We invite you to dive into the 2024 edition of “A Woman’s Guide to Money, Relationships, and the Law in Ontario” to navigate the legal complexities surrounding relationships and understand how to protect yourself from economic abuse.
