The National Association of Women and the LAW (NAWL) is pleased to announce that it has received funding from Women and Gender Equality Canada for a new 18-month project aimed at enhancing the economic security and prosperity of marginalized women across Canada.
The VOICE project (Vision for Opportunity, Inclusivity, Civic Participation: Enhanced Reform for Systemic Economic Advancement) will address the needs of racialized women, women living with disabilities, women in rural and northern communities, and those from low-income backgrounds, by supporting and advocating for legislative changes.
“Economic inequality, exacerbated by the high cost of living, is disproportionately felt by marginalized women, and the laws in place to address these impacts contain significant gaps,” said Tiffany Butler, Executive Director of NAWL.
Under VOICE, NAWL will continue to develop its digital resources and toolkits for feminist advocates and to strengthen The Chanterelle Alliance for Feminist Law Reform by enhancing its internal capacity, engagement, and coordination. Throughout this project, NAWL will ensure that the perspectives of racialized women, those living with disabilities, and those from low-income backgrounds are integrated into the legislative process from the ground-up by prioritizing the voices and lived experiences of these communities via its expert working group.
Through these strategic efforts, NAWL remains committed to crafting gender-responsive socio-economic laws that are comprehensive, inclusive, and focused on achieving systemic change for all women in Canada.
NAWL looks forward to sharing more details on the project, and its results, with stakeholders and the public over the next 18 months.
